What is my Story
To get to know me, you must first know what is most important to me. I was raised by my single mother with help from both of my grandparents. My mother taught me my work ethic, while raising three children she often had two jobs and a few times picked up a third. My grandfather was a huge influence in my life. If I had to narrow it down to one thing he taught me it would be “be kind to others” Two of the sayings he always repeated are “All it takes for Evil to thrive is for good people to do Nothing” and “Your purpose in life should be to help others that cannot help themselves” he not only told me this but exemplified these principles throughout his life. I love people, some of my favorite people are my family. My wife is the best of me, we have been together for a very long time and yet I have never been mad at her. I am not talking about arguments I have never even been mad at her. Now to be fair she has been mad at me and usually for a really good reason. We do disagree on some items but we have come to an understanding that I am usually right. Next, we have my daughter who is 25 and finishing her bachelor’s teaching, I am so proud of her. Teaching the next generation is how we are going to fix most of our country’s problems and she wants to be part of that (yes, I am an optimist). Lastly, I have my son he is 22 and getting ready to be deployed to the Sinai Peninsula so he has taken his senior year off at the Oregon State Mechanical Engineering program. He has continued the family tradition of serving our country in the military and coming home with an inappropriate sense of humor (okay he may have already had the sense of humor before he left).
When I say I am a study of opposites my love of people is one of those. As much as I love people I have magnified my dislike for anyone who wrongly treats people less fortunate than themselves badly. This is a consequence of volunteering for twelve years at the Jackson County Juvenile Detention Center (JDH) and mentoring four young men through the H.A.T.S. (Help A Teen Succeed). Watching what adults can do to innocent children and the result of those actions even years later
I enjoy reading and read about one book a month on average. Some of my favorite books are:
As much as I love meeting new people and being around my friends and family I also enjoy being alone in fact in most of my spare time, you can usually find me out hiking in the woods or on the water. One of my favorite places is Horseshoe Lake in the South Blue Lake Group or kayaking some lake or river.
